Why Freight Containers?
Freight containers, also known as intermodal containers or shipping containers, offer a water-tight, weather-proof structure that is capable of withstanding the most extreme weather conditions. It is more versatile, durable and cost effective than traditional greenhouses, and, because of its uniform configuration, it is a more efficient growing solution. This platform allows Freight Farms to make use of many of the containers’ beneficial characteristics.
Freight Farms can be easily stacked to increase crop production on a surface without using a bigger plot of land. Units come ready to use, and do not require lengthy, expensive construction on site.
Who can benefit from Freight Farms?
We designed freight farms to require little labor and produce big results. This focus on human-centered design means Freight Farms can be easily implemented by communities and business of all sizes, and managed by people without a degree in agriculture.
