Grow Food Here: Baltimore, Maryland | Urban Pastoral

J.J. Reidy and Christian de Paco have a big vision for their Baltimore-based freight farming business, Urban Pastoral. Using food as a tool for urban revival, they want to increase access to fresh produce, create jobs, and educate people on all aspects of sustainable food and farming. Watch their story here:

Their entrepreneurial spirit coupled with their passion to bring local produce to the residents of Baltimore has fueled the success of Urban Pastoral. These two aren’t just farmers, they’re urban developers on a mission to activate underutilized space for food production in the city. As J.J puts it, “they’re developers with a penchant for urban agriculture.”

UP aims to build ecosystems of integrated food and agricultural businesses on strategic sites across the city by partnering with real estate developers and nonprofits, as well as participating in the Baltimore Food Hub.

Urban Pastoral has remained committed to bringing the freshest local greens to their city.J.J. and Christian work closely with local restaurant chefs to tailor production to their specific culinary needs.

J.J. and Christian recently announced they’ll be launching a new venture in partnership with local Baltimore chef, Melanie Moreno. The three plan to open Stall 11, a veggie-centric eatery, in early fall 2016!

Food is a foundation for community, an ingredient of cultural identity, a medium for culinary expression, and a powerful tool for change. Through Grow Food Here we want to celebrate all those working to improve our relationship with food, so join us in the conversation!
