Worcester State University Installs an LGM™

Earlier this week, Worcester State University installed a Leafy Green Machine on campus to begin growing all local lettuce...year-round. Spearheading the Freight-Farm-to-Table concept, their goal is to provide the freshest food possible to the student body while continuing to encourage and inspire students to be more sustainable.

Worcester State University Dining Director, Richard Perna, has been eager to get the LGM to their campus to say the least.

We were able to speak at length with the Chartwells team during their Farm Camp training at Freight Farms HQ, and there is no doubt that their enthusiasm about the project will ensure its success.

This project also supports Worcester State’s continued commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. The university was recently recognized by the Governor Baker administration, which gave WSU a “Leading by Example” award for implementing numerous sustainable measures, such as solar panels, introducing Zipcar to campus, and providing a bike-share program.

WSU is anticipating their first harvest in January 2016, and we will keep you up to date with their progress! To watch the installation of their LGM, check out this video.
