Introduce an on-site container farm to improve health outcomes, showcase your hospital’s innovation, and engage with your community.

Why Freight Farms?

With a container farm directly on-site, you can start providing local, nutrient-dense produce to your healthcare organization every day.

Our vertical, hydroponic farms, built inside 320 sq. ft. shipping containers, empower your hospital to improve community food access, increase produce consumption among patients and staff, and reduce its environmental impact.

Promote Food as Medicine

Advancing patient care
By growing food directly on-site, your hospital can boost patient recovery, improve health outcomes, and ensure higher nutritional density in the produce served to patients and staff.

Supporting preventive nutrition
Improve access to fresh, healthy, and locally-grown food in your community by selling your harvest at farmers markets and donating to local food pantries.

Boost Sustainability Initiatives

Saving space and water
Demonstrate your commitment to environmental stewardship by transforming 320 sq. ft. of underutilized space into an indoor farm, growing over 13,000 plants with a mere 5 gallons of water per day.

Minimizing your food’s carbon footprint
Grow produce on-site to cut down on high food miles, decrease your dependence on external produce suppliers, and significantly reduce your food waste.

Engage Your Community

Fostering connections
Utilize the farm to host public tours, facilitate student field trips, and provide volunteer opportunities for hospital staff and community members.

Sparking essential conversations
Educate and involve your broader community in discussions about health, nutrition, and sustainability.

Healthcare Outcomes When Hospitals Embrace Vertical Farming

Rick Vanzura, CEO of Freight Farms, sat down with Amber Orman, Chief Wellness Officer at AdventHealth, to explore the impact that container farming can have on the healthcare industry. AdventHealth recognizes the importance of nutrition in whole-person care, and its on-site container farms supply fresh, nutrient-dense food to staff, patients, and the community every day. This initiative has also sparked important conversations about the health benefits of a plant-forward diet—one of AdventHealth’s guiding missions.

AdventHealth Celebration is using container farming to combat food insecurity, increase employee health, and reduce their environmental impact.

Since introducing Freight-Farmed produce, cafeteria sales have surged by 85%. Responding to this increased demand, the hospital added another 28 hours of salad bar access per week for patients and staff.

Due to the Freight Farm’s quick success, AdventHealth is eager to extend this initiative to more campuses, enabling additional hospital locations to provide fresh and nutrient-dense produce to their patients, staff, and community.
